Hello there!

My name is Cody and I am the leader of The Defenders! My official title here at West Milton Church of Christ is Youth and Family Minister. The Defenders are a group who get their inspiration from 1 Peter 3:15 where it says, 'but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.' This means as a Defender we do the best to equip ourselves with the knowledge necessary to defend the Gospel of Christ against cultic, atheist, agnostic, and denominational beliefs. Not only are we ready to defend the Gospel, but we are ready to do so in a manner that reflects Christ in our inner selves.

As a Defender our first wish is to defend the Gospel by equipping ourselves with the knowledge necessary to be an example in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity (1 Timothy 4:12). We do this by devoting ourselves to rigorous Bible study and meditation of the scriptures God has left us. We also do our best to step up in service to the Lord but in worship and with our fellow man. In order to become Defender, you do not have to instantly know or be ready to do these things. The knowledge of the Holy Scriptures, the will and desire to serve, and the ability to be a righteous example come with much time and diligence.

Furthermore, being a Defender means searching out more people to become Defenders of the Gospel of Christ. We have not only been told to be ready to give a defense and to be an example, but we have been instructed to go unto the whole world, make disciples of Christ, baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and teach them the ways of Christ (Matthew 28:18-20). Like many things, it is easier to accomplish a task the higher the number of workers are; the same thing applies to being a Defender, the more young people we have working to defend, be an example, and evangelize, the easier it becomes because of the peer influence and mutual desire.

If you want to become a Defender, it is really not hard to do. You do not have to exercise, be smart, make good grades, be athletic, or pretty; all you have to do to become a defender is hear what God's word has to say (Romans 10:17), believe what the Scriptures say that Jesus is the 100% God, 100% man that came to the Earth to die for your sins (John 3:16), decide to change from a life of sin and fleshly desire to a life of service to God (Acts 2:38), confess your faith that Jesus is the Son of God before man and God himself (Romans 10:10), and be baptized into Christ and added to the Lord's church (1 Peter 3:21).

If you have any questions about the Defenders, how to become a Defender, or why you should become a Defender, I am willing and able to help you and answer any questions you may have. My prayer is that God blesses you in your life and that you serve Him in accord with His word.
